Sonora Caverns

Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to post these, but like I said our computer crashed. Good thing Anthony is good with computers. We are up and runing again. Well, this past weekend we went up to Sonora, a little town about 1 1/2 hrs from here, and saw the caverns with the Leiningers. As soon as we got there we had a little picnic on the camp grounds and explored the gift shop. We had lots of fun and the caves were beautiful! I guess that is why they are named the 4th in the US and 10th in the world for their beauty. I don't know if you have ever been in caverns before, but I have. Most caverns are all brown and dull. Just regular rocks that form weird formations. Well, these caverns were different. They had all different kind of crystals that formed all kind of remarkable formations. In one part of the cavern it was so beautiful that a couple actually got married down there. We did lots of walking, about 2 miles and went down about 15 stories. Which was more than I could handle. I didn't realize there was going to be so many stairs and steep hills to climb. I really should have waited a little bit longer for me to recover from my c-section. That night & the next day I had serious cramping. I just figured that since we are about to move from here I wanted to do everything that I could around this little town before I left. I would've hated that I missed out on something so beautiful and I was so close. Well, I paid the price. Isabel was a trouper though. She walked the whole way. Near the end she kept saying, "My legs are dead!" Anyways, down in the caves the temperature was about 71*, but with 98% humidity it felt like 85*. The rails that you held on to were slippery with water dripping down them. It was gross. Just to give you an idea of how long it takes for these formations to form. The tour guide said it takes about 150 years just to form an 1/8 of an inch. That is as thin as a sheet of paper. Isn't that fascinating. I think it is awesome. I love wonders of the world. We took lots of pictures, like usual. They don't do the place justice though. The caverns were bright and glowy in areas but you can't tell that in the pictures. The Wedding placeApplesauce

Cupcakes with icingFish Tails Have you seen anything that defines gravity? Pretty cool huh
The wonderful butterfly that they advertise in their brochure. They make it look like it is huge, but it was a big dissapointment. It was only like 4 inches long. What a bummer. Can you find it?
Another intersting fact about these caverns is that it was discovered by accident. They said they were chasing a skunk or some kind of animal and when they dug a little whole this is what they find. Could you imagine! What a discovery. The hole started out just to be 2 feet across and ended up being miles and miles of discovery below. We only saw 2 miles of it, but they said there was still another 6 miles to go. Wow! Thats a big freaking cavern

That looks like so much fun, we have a lot of caves around here too and love going to them. It is so great that you all travel around and see as much as possible while you are there.

Oh, what fun and to think it was that close while we were there!! I've only been to Mammouth Cave. I wish we had made it to these caverns, they look gorgeous. Hope you're feeling better after the walk/climb!!

Those are exceptionally beautiful!!! I've been in several caves too and they were nothing like that. I know what you mean about pictures not showing the true lighting and glow bc when we went to Ruby Falls on our way out here, my pics didn't reflect the reality of them either. I can't even imagine what that particular cave looks like bc your pictures look awesome as they are. That is definitely one spot I would love to experience. It seems so awe inducing and serene. Are you recovered?

BTW, I love your new Fall background. You've inspired me. I think I'm going to change mine now.

They were so beautiful. At times I felt like I was standing in the Celestrial room. Everything was white and glowing. So peaceful and wonderful.
