Labor Day

For Labor Day this year we thought that we would go to the largest movie set, The Alamo Village. It is located about 40 minutes from our house in a small town called Bracketville. I didn't even know it existed and I have been here now for over 2 years. You can tell I don't get out much. It was pretty cool. The whole time I was there I was thinking, "Man my Dad would really love this place!" Although I didn't find it that interesting; I know my Dad would have. He is a huge John Wayne fan and since this set was made by John Wayne I figured he would have loved it. My Dad has always enjoyed traveling around the US, siteseeing, exploring caves, historical marks, wonders of the world, and little odd in places. So of course he has instilled it in me to do the same.
Facts about the place:
-Features only replaca of the 1836 Alamo Mission- Fortress in the world.
-Built for John Wayne's epic movie THE ALAMO (took almost 2 years to complete)
-Is a complete town with jail saloon, general stores, stables, church, bank, & blacksmith shop
-Since the Alamo, more than 100 major movies, TV shows, documentaries, commercials & music videos have been filmed here
(37 movies, 20 info films & t.v. specials, 32 commercials, 6 documentaries, & 6 music videos)

Since I'm not a big western watching movie person I didn't know any of the movies that they listed, but I did know one of the music videos: It was by Brooks & Dunn "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone"

Well, for Labor Day they threw a party out at the place. I think it would have been funner if the horses and people would have shown up for the thing. Since the hurricane came in a lot of the people backed out of the production. Isabel was really bummed that she didn't get to see the horse races. But she did get to see a gun fight show. It was funny. When one of the guys got shot and fell to the ground Isabel really thought he was dead. She kept saying why is that guy dead? Poor girl, I kept trying to tell them they were all just playing and it was a show, but she didn't believe me.

Locked in jail!
Let Me OUT!!!

After we left the Alamo Village we went home to take a nap and then took one last dip in the base pool. I am so sad to say that yesterday was the last day the pool will be open for the year. I can't believe that they close it so soon. I would have loved to gone swimming today. It is 98* right now. Oh well, we enjoyed it while it lasted.

Sorry my post sounds a lot like the Leininger's. Every where we went yesterday, they were there. It was like we were following them around. Great minds must think a like is what I have to say. Since we kept bumping in to them we have decided to make another little siteseeing trip together for next weekend. We will be driving about 2 hours away to explore the wonderful crystal caverns up in Sonora
